Chuma Okeke Bittersweet at USA Basketball U19 tryouts

The 6-foot-7, 221-pound Aurburn freshman, Chuma Okeke was named a finalist for USA Basketball’s U19 team making it past the first round of cuts from 27 to 18.  But the success was bittersweet as a knee tweek occurring during a scrimmage Monday night, appeared drastically more painful the nest day.  Okeke sat out both sessions (morning and evening) on Tuesday.

“I make the cut and get hurt,” Okeke said, “but hopefully I can make a return tomorrow after they do the tests and stuff. I’m very hopeful for that.”

 

“We’ll find out more,” Calipari said, “but I think he’s OK.”
