Five Star Guard Ja’Vonte Smart Selects the Home Team and Commits to LSU

Class of 2018, five star, 6’4 combo guard JaVonte Smart selects LSU among his top college picks. These included Kentucky, UCLA, Kansas, Florida State and Oklahoma State. Opting to stay at home where he’s earned two state championships at the high school level, JaVonte feels at LSU he can “take his game to another level” and “put on for his city.”

Attracting Smart as his first commitment and talks of recruitment of other top prospects, the young coach Will Wade is hitting the ground running in his first season at LSU.

Smart is regarded as the No. 17 overall prospect in the 2018 class. In addition to his two state titles, Smart also has a pair of gold medals with USA basketball and was named second team MaxPreps Junior All-American.

On the EYBL circuit, playing for the Houston Hoops, Smart averaged 15.1 points and 4.2 assists per game.
